CSCsj78920 | TITLE: 7200/ubr7200: Router Hang / Watchdog Hard Reset |
CSCir01277 | TITLE: 7304 NPE-G100 Router reboot due to watch dog reset |
The products mentioned in the Products Affected table might unexpectedly reload during normal operation. The router will not generate a crash info file and the CLI command show version issued after the unexpected reload will display Last reset from watchdog reset.
The router has a watchdog system on board which generates interrupts every 4 ms. The software responds to the interrupts and resets the watchdog. If the software fails to respond and resets the watchdog within 32 ms, the watchdog will first issue a Non-Maskable Interrupt (NMI) to the CPU. If the CPU fails to respond to the NMI a further 42ms, the watchdog will then issue a 'L2 watchdog timeout' and could reset the router
Under certain rare conditions, specific code sequences can prevent the CPU from executing additional instructions. New versions of software are available which eliminate these failures without affecting system performance or functionality.
The following workarounds are currently available on Cisco Software Center. Affected customers should upgrade to the below noted IOS revisions (or later versions) to correct this issue. Customers should refer to the noted DDTS and Cisco Software Center for additional releases as they become available.
