CSCun00720 | UCS 6296 FI System fails to boot after a power cycle |
CSCun66310 | Nexus 5596: System fails to boot after a power cycle |
Some Nexus 5596 and Unified Computing System Fabric Interconnect (UCS FI) 6296 systems fail to boot after a software upgrade, reload, or power cycle. This problem is rare in occurrence but has been seen in the field.
The failure signature is no console output and the status LED remains solid green.
The issue is only seen on N5K-C5596UP, N5K-C5596T, and UCS-FI-6296UP. This DOES NOT affect the Nexus 50x0, Nexus 5548, Nexus 5600 Series, UCS FI 6100 Series, or UCS FI 6248.
There are two power controller devices in the system and each controller device controls four ASIC devices 0.9V power rails on board. It was found that the firmware on the two controllers have different soft-start compensation parameters.
In order to correct the issue a script needs to be run on the system to update the controller settings. This can be done in the field, but requires assistance from the Technical Assistance Center (TAC).
After a power cycle there is no console output and the status LED remains solid green.
Refer to the "How to Identify Affected Products" section for instructions on how to view the version of an in-service product.
If the hardware shows the Updated Hardware Version or later, no action is required.
If the hardware shows the Impacted Hardware Version or earlier, please call TAC or your account team for further assistance. The controller configuration settings can be corrected in the field with TAC assistance.
Enter this command in nxos mode and see the table in order to determine if the hardware is impacted:
