CSCvg79938 | N3k: eUSB Flash Failure or Unable to Save Configuration and Bootflash becomes read-only |
An issue has been discovered on Cisco Nexus 3000 Series switches that use 2Gb or 4Gb boot flash (products listed in Table 1) which might prevent a successful save of the configuration, write or creation of of a new VLAN to flash, or boot up of the switch when reloaded. The scope of impact is for platforms listed in Table 1 and for a limited set of serial numbers. Check the Serial Number Validation Tool in order to see if your switch is impacted.
Refer to Cisco bug ID CSCvg79938 for further details.

Releases Impacted
Any releases earlier than 7.0(3)I7(3) and 7.0(3)I4(8) are impacted. This includes Release 7.0(3)I5(1), 7.0(3)I5(2), 7.0(3)I6(1), 7.0(3)I6(2), 7.0(3)I7(1), 7.0(3)I7(2), 7.0(3)I4(7) and earlier.
Some Cisco Nexus 3000 Series platforms that use 2Gb or 4Gb boot flash and fall within the impacted serial range might see an eUSB flash failure. The boot flash can either go into a read-only mode sometimes recovered post reload or become completely inaccessible.
Issue Resolved
This eUSB failure, Cisco bug ID CSCvg79938, is resolved in Release 7.0(3)I7(3) or 7.0(3)I4(8) and later.
Note: Release 7.0(3)I5(1) and 7.0(3)I5(2) as well as 7.0(3)I6(1) and 7.0(3)I6(2) do NOT have the fix for Cisco bug ID CSCvg79938.
Your switches are impacted if:

Upgrade impacted switches to Release 7.0(3) I7(3) or 7.0(3) I4(8).
The switch can be upgraded to one of these releases as per normal procedure via an install all or boot variable change and reload.
For detailed upgrade instructions, refer to the upgrade guide for your release. This can be found at Software Upgrade and Downgrade Guides.
The boot flash can either go into a read only mode (recoverable by reload) or become completely inaccessible. If the switch becomes inacessable open a Technical Assistance Center (TAC) case for a Return Material Authorization (RMA) and reference the field notice number.
Note: Cisco bug ID CSCvg79938 is resolved in Release 7.0(3)I7(3) or 7.0(3)I4(8) and later.
