CSCvm04444 | Multiple Processes Can Crash or Fail to Start due to Recent Microsoft Updates |
Multiple processes that run on a Microsoft Windows 2012 R2 server can crash or fail to start because of KB4338815. The process logs will show a crash with an error similar to "Fail: Error 10048 on Accept and Not Shutdown". Microsoft has confirmed this to be an issue. In order to resolve the issue, install KB4338831 on the affected servers.
This issue can be seen on any component which runs on Windows 2012 R2 and has Microsoft KB4338815 installed on it.
Processes which run on Windows 2012 R2 can begin to crash and will create MDMP files. The process logs will show "Error 10048 on Accept and Not Shutdown". This is an error from the Windows Winsock API which indicates that the IP:Protocol:Port combination is already in use even though the netstat -ano | findstr <portnum> command does not show the port in use.
The workaround which Microsoft has provided is to install KB4338831, also known as 7C.
